Romans 4
Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what He had promised. Romans 4:18-21 NIV
We see over and over again in the pages of our Bibles that God performs miracles, and can change circumstances to alter the course of a situation that seems hopeless. In order for God to be able to do the same in our lives today, we have a role to play in this process, which is the same thing that was expected of Abraham so many centuries ago. We must place our trust in God and what He can do. Faith is the way that we are able to activate the promises of God. It requires that we trust in the unseen reality of God’s words, rather than what we can actually see, touch, taste and feel in this world. “For we live by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). This means that our words and actions should reflect that we are living our lives with eternal consequences and rewards in mind. So we should be choosing righteousness over sin and trusting God rather than depending on our own understanding. When we base our lives on the truth of God’s Word, rather than what the world is telling us to do, we go against our natural desires and choose to believe in what we can’t physically see – God and His Truth. It also shows that we fear God more than man and that we believe in the promise that He rewards those who are faithful to Him. “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). Whatever need you have today or problem you are facing, trust in Him. He won’t let you down!
