Psalms 130
If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared. Psalms 130:3-4 NKJV
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard” (Romans 3:23, NLT). Sin separates you from God, and prevents you from having access to His power. God does not want this separation to occur. He loves you, desires to be close to you, and wants to bless your life abundantly. Therefore, God has provided an instant remedy for when you do sin against Him: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). This is an amazing promise, that God forgives His children whenever they come to Him with an attitude of repentance and ask to be forgiven. Yet all too commonly, doubt is still allowed to creep in. Does God truly forgive me? Will He continue to forgive me even if I keep making the same mistakes over and over again? Will He forgive even my really bad sins? The answer to all of these questions is undoubtedly, “YES!” Trust the promises of God’s Word: “For His unfailing love toward those who fear Him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west” (Psalms 103:11-12, NLT). Do not let Satan deceive you that you are not able to be forgiven, healed and restored completely. Do not listen to him when he tells you your sins are too big to be forgiven. Do not fall for his tricks when he tries to make you feel guilty all over again for past sins that you have already repented for. Scripture is perfectly clear: “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:21, NLT). Because of Christ’s blood that was shed on the cross for us, there is infinite grace and forgiveness for those who are truly and humbly seeking it. At the same time, it must be noted that it is unbiblical for a person to sin habitually and continually as a lifestyle. 1 John 3:8-9, NLT tells us: “But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God.” Is there a sin in your life separating you from God? If so, humbly ask for His forgiveness, and then accept it.
Know that Jesus does not condemn you for your mistakes and He will not lecture you for hours on end. Instead, He instantly forgives, completely forgets, and then says “…Go and sin no more” (John 8:11, NLT).
