Matthew 1
Matthew 1. The genealogy of Jesus shows us that God desires to use all different types of people to accomplish His will. Jesus’ human ancestors included Rahab, who was a prostitute, and her claim to fame was telling a lie to protect two spies sent by Joshua into Jericho. She was blessed because she believed in God: “And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.” Joshua 2:11 NKJV. God chooses the weak, the desperate, the brave, the messed up, the least, and the hopeful to bring about His plan of redemption and restoration for the world. He examined the motive and heart of Rahab and blessed her by choosing her to be a part of a greater storyline.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:18 NKJV
The incarnation of Jesus Christ means that God took on a human body and lived among us. Jesus Christ was fully God and fully human. Because Jesus lived as a man, He fully understands our experiences and struggles. But because He is God, He has the ability to help us through our trials, struggles and temptations. Even more so because He has already overcome all temptations and trials.
