Genesis 9
“And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.” Genesis 9:5 NIV
God will “demand an accounting”; He will require each and every one of us to account for our own actions. “Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard. When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent.” Genesis (9:20-21 NIV) Noah got drunk and passed out in his tent. This is a reminder that even godly people can sin. Noah sinned even after he had spent 120 years building the ark and obeying God. We all inherently have a sinful nature and will all make mistakes throughout our lives. The sacrifice that Jesus made assures us that if we ask for forgiveness and have a heart of repentance, then God will forgive us each and every time that we slip up. Does this mean we have the freedom to sin and do whatever we want, since God will just forgive us? Absolutely not! It is simply a reminder that if we do make a mistake, we must turn towards God and ask for His forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9 NIV) Remember that the enemy will try to make us feel guilty for what we have done, but if we truly repent and ask God to help us change, we do not need to feel guilt or shame. “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,” Romans 8:1 NIV.
