Genesis 49
Genesis 49:3-28
Here we see Jacob’s final words to his sons, who would be the forefathers of the 12 tribes of Israel. He starts out with a demotion for Reuben and a curse for Simeon & Levi because of their previous sinful actions. The other nine sons received a blessing from Jacob. This is an example of the spiritual principle outlined in Galatians 6:7: “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” If we sow love, joy, peace, patience, kindness and goodness into other people’s lives, these blessings will come back to us. But if we decide to sow hostility, quarreling, jealousy, anger and selfishness, we will not inherit the Kingdom of God (righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit). “Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:8-10
