Genesis 46
So He said, “I am God, the God of your father; do not fear to go down to Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there. I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph will put his hand on your eyes.” Genesis 46:3-4 NKJV
God told Jacob not to be afraid to go to Egypt. Fear can be a natural response to new situations or surroundings. But God promises to be with us today, just as He promised Jacob that He would go down to Egypt with him. “As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him” (2 Samuel 22:31). If He is a shield to all who trust in Him, then there is nothing in this life that we should be afraid of. We are called to obey God and faithfully do whatever He tells us to do. Hearing from God in today’s world doesn’t look the same as it did in the time of Genesis and Exodus. God is unlikely to communicate with us from a burning bush. However, He does speak to us and you can hear specific commands from Him. His guidance can be experienced as a bad feeling that you get after making a big decision. Because of your lack of peace you know that God is telling you that it was the wrong choice. Conversely you may get an idea in your head and then start to act on it. You know that it was God who prompted you to do this when everything falls into place just perfectly and you truly have peace about it.
