Genesis 42
So Joseph recognized his brothers, but they did not recognize him. Then Joseph remembered the dreams which he had dreamed about them, and said to them, “You are spies! You have come to see the nakedness of the land!” Genesis 42:8-9 NKJV
Joseph remembered his dreams about his brothers bowing down to him (Genesis 37:6-9). Those dreams were coming true, even though his brothers had never believed that they would. He could have said “I told you so,” but he decided to use self-control and not gratify his pride. Sometimes it is best for us to remain quiet, even when we would like to have the last word. We always need to be careful with what we say. Words are powerful. Proverbs 13:3 describes a benefit that comes to those that choose their words wisely: “Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.”
