Genesis 32
And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!” Genesis 32:26 NKJV
Jacob was persistent, and vowed to wrestle with God until he received a blessing. We should remain persistent with our faith and in our prayer life, even when (or especially when) it does not look to us like anything is changing. Jesus illustrated the importance of persistence and God’s desire to hear persistent prayer in the parable of the persistent widow, in Luke 18. Remember that when we pray, we need to thank God for hearing our prayer, and know that if what you are asking for is in His will, it will come to pass. If it is not in His will, trust that God has a great reason for answering “no” to your prayer. Try to reflect on some of your previous prayers where God didn’t answer them the way you would have liked. See if you can take a step back in order to understand God’s plan instead of focusing on what you thought you needed. There is a lot of wisdom in the lyrics to the song “Unanswered Prayers”: “Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers Remember when you’re talkin’ to the Man upstairs That just because He doesn’t answer doesn’t mean He don’t care Some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers”
