Genesis 2
And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Genesis 2:2 NKJV
God rested. Therefore we must set aside time to rest and get refreshed, so that we can have the energy to do the good deeds that God wants us to do. According to Hebrews 4:9-10, if we reconnect with God when we rest, we will find rest from all our striving. This will give us an inner peace that this world cannot comprehend.
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Genesis 2:7 NKJV
God gives us our very breath and life. Our lives and worth, all that we are and all that we have come from Him, not from our own achievements.
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 2:16-17 NKJV
God gave Adam a choice: obey and be blessed, or disobey and be enslaved to sin. God created humans, and He wants us to love Him. However, in order to love Him, we have to be given the choice to love Him or not. For Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, and for us today, obedience to God’s Word shows our love for Him. Jesus said “if you love Me, obey My commandments” -John 14:15
