Exodus 15
Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord: “I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted. Both horse and driver He has hurled into the sea. The Lord is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him.” Exodus 15:1-2 NIV
Immediately after the Israelites were delivered from harm, Moses and the people of Israel sang a praise and worship song. They were so thankful for what God had miraculously done for them, that just saying words was not sufficient to express their feelings of gratitude. Singing songs that glorify God are a very important part of our relationship with Him. In the book of Ephesians, the apostle Paul tells believers to “be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:18-20). When we become filled with the Holy Spirit, our thankfulness for God’s blessings in our lives overflows. Singing songs of praise is a wonderful, powerful, and deeply personal way to connect with God and to show our true appreciation for our loving Creator.
