Exodus 13
By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people. Exodus 13:21-22 NIV
God guided the Israelites during their journey through the desert, and He never left them. “Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people” (v. 22). Today, God guides us with His words in the Bible and through the Holy Spirit within us. He is always with us. If we don’t “feel” His presence, it means that we have either lost faith that He is with us, or we have turned away from Him. We sometimes turn away from Him through sin, or even just by letting the busyness of life lead to neglect of our relationship with Him. Remember that despite what we may do, He is always there, and always willing to welcome us back with open arms. “If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny who He is” (2 Timothy 2:13). Jesus’ brother James tells us to “Come close to God, and God will come close to you” (James 4:8).
Come close to God today by devoting purposeful time to Him through prayer and spending time in the Word.
