Exodus 11
So Moses said, “This is what the Lord says: ‘About midnight I will go throughout Egypt. Every firstborn son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn son of the female slave, who is at her hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle as well. There will be loud wailing throughout Egypt—worse than there has ever been or ever will be again. But among the Israelites not a dog will bark at any person or animal.’ Then you will know that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.” Exodus 11:4-7 NIV
God was making a clear distinction between the Hebrews who worshipped Him and the Egyptians who did not follow Him. This is a clear demonstration of God’s desire to protect His followers. Psalms 33:18 tells us “But the Lord watches over those who fear Him, those who rely on His unfailing love.” When the Bible talks about the fear of the Lord, it is not implying that we should be afraid of God. This type of fear refers to a reverential fear of the Lord that comes from being in awe of His supreme greatness. When we act this way towards Him, His promise for protection will be fulfilled. Psalms 91:11 states “For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”
With God and His angels here to protect us, there is nothing on Earth that we should be afraid of.
