What does the assassination of Charlie Kirk say about the current state of our society in America? Is there any hope for us as a nation moving forward? Is there a battle raging between left and right in America, or is it deeper than that? How can God use this terrible tragedy for good? There are so many questions that arise as we navigate through the grieving process. One of our heroes was assassinated because he was a political figure. He was martyred because he courageously spoke out about his faith, and for ideas and ideals that are based on principles that are found in the Bible. Many are trying to smear his name, but make no mistake: Charlie Kirk was a humble man, full of love for his fellow human beings, and patient with those who disagreed with him. He had his priorities in proper order: love of God, followed by love of family and then love of his country. He was a champion for open, honest and civil discourse so that we all could come to a knowledge of the truth on a wide range of topics. He lived out what it means to be a Christian, fully devoted to our Lord and Savior. Above all the politics and truth about cultural issues, He wanted people to know the truth about Jesus Christ. His legacy is broad and far-reaching. When he was asked how he would want to be remembered, he said: “Courage for my faith. That would be the most important thing. My faith.” He always said that courage is a choice, and it doesn’t require any skill. Each of us can learn from his example, and be bold and courageous for our faith. “The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalms 27:1 NIV
Where do we turn for unity in a time of immense tragedy?
For unity to be possible, we must unite around the truth. After 9/11, there was a brief period of unity in America. We turned to God and to each other for comfort during a time of immense grief and loss. Should we look to our political leaders to help us navigate this? Do we look within ourselves and follow our feelings? How can 342 million people with an equal number of unique ideas about how the world works, be unified? There is only one place to turn. There is only one way. Only the God of the Bible, the one true God, can truly bring unity. Jesus is “the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6). He is our Creator, and He knows that each of us is unique, with certain talents and abilities. He also knows that some of us have been deceived. In order to unify, we must look towards something higher than ourselves. We must live for a purpose that is greater than us. The body of Christ (the church) must lead the way. If we have wisdom to understand God’s Word, and we speak God’s truth clearly, we can break through the lies and deception that are so prevalent in this world. This is a call to pastors to be bold from the pulpit, and to speak life into the dark places in our government, our culture and our society. This is a call to each one of us, to “rightly divide the Word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15) and to be bold to speak to everyone around us about the love of God.

How can God use this tragedy for good?
The Bible says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) Charlie and Erika Kirk have been called by God for a purpose. So this promise fully applies to their family, to Erika and the kids as they navigate life without their beloved husband and father. God can and will comfort and carry them through this difficult time. What Joseph said to his brothers can be applied in this situation as well. He said “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” Genesis 50:20 NIV. God can grow the cause that Charlie died to defend, and we are already seeing the fruit of that. A courageous leader was struck down, and instead of us scattering in fear, we are rising up. Turning Point USA, Turning Point Faith, and the other organizations that Charlie Kirk founded will grow stronger than ever before. In the few months after Charlie’s death, there were over 120,000 inquiries for new applications for students who wanted to start a high school or college Turning Point chapter. Charlie was silenced, but millions across the world are rising up to carry on the mission that he started. Jesus said “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” (John 12:24 NIV). In addition to the Turning Point mission, God can bring revival to our country and throughout the world. God can use this tragedy to open people’s eyes to the reality of His love for all people. One by one, as people’s eyes are opened, they will have the chance to start a relationship with their loving God. Revival in the world is possible, and there are signs. People are buying Bibles, going back to church or going to church for the first time. Revival starts within each one of us. The good that comes from this tragedy is personal, and it is spreading world-wide. Use this tragedy to make changes in your own life, to live out the plan for your life that God has designed. Join me in praying for revival to spread throughout the world. We can all be part of a movement that increased the goodness of God in our world.
What battle are we fighting?
Every day, we are in a battle of good vs. evil. Charlie was doing good works. He was boldly spreading the gospel message of the love of Jesus on college campuses across America. He truly is a martyr because he died for his faith. What the assassin did on September 10, 2025 was pure evil. He tried to play God, but all he really did was act as a tool for Satan. Those who celebrated Charlie’s death were also being used by Satan, as are those who think that political violence is justifiable. Jesus said in Matthew 5:21-22 that “anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment.” Deception is a major problem in our world today, and we all must daily make sure that we are not being deceived. How do we do that? By reading and studying the Bible, prayer, and researching truth for ourselves, not just believing what others say or post. Do I hate or carry any anger against those who have called Charlie a racist, a fascist, and a Nazi? Do I hate those people who are literally mocking and celebrating Charlie Kirk’s death? What about those who are trying to smear Charlie’s name, even less than a week after he died, by calling him a bigot, and claiming he believed certain things that he never said? No. I love them and I feel sorry for them. They are deceived. They don’t know the truth. They do not know God. As Christians, we pray for our enemies, for those who attack us. Remember, we don’t battle against flesh and blood. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12 NIV. We pray for protection and guidance from God. We pray for the ability to be full of grace and love, especially in the midst of this time when Satan is trying to divide us further. This is not a battle of left vs. right, this is a battle of good vs. evil. The left-right divide will deepen unless we all turn to God for a solution.
What is your purpose for being alive?
What are you living for that’s worth dying for? It may take some time to self-reflect, but in order for us to feel fulfilled in life, there has to be something bigger than us that we are living for. For me, it’s simple. I love God and His Son Jesus Christ, and I want everyone in my life to know the truth about Him. For so many people, Charlie’s death marks a turning point. The name of his organization is actually prophetic. Will we shrink back in fear or will we stand in boldness and courage? God has put us here in this time and in this place for a reason. There are good things that He wants us all to do. There are people in your life who need to know the truth about Jesus. Will you respond with apathy and indifference or with zeal for God? “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8 NIV). Let this be your response. Lord, send each of us to the mission field that You have prepared for us.

What did I learn at Charlie’s memorial service?
When you lose someone, it can feel like there is a huge hole where that person is missing. If you take the characteristics and qualities that you love about that person and internalize them as part of yourself, you can grow stronger. If they are Christ-like qualities, you will become more Christ-like. Charlie had many qualities where he embodied what it looked like to be a follower of Christ. His life was one to emulate. So we can take and internalize boldness to proclaim the clear gospel message, show kindness in the face of hostility, and show love for others, even those who disagree with us. For everyone who spoke at Charlie’s memorial service and everyone who watched the event unfold, one singular message was clear. Even though he poured so much into Turning Point USA, everyone knew that he placed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, above everything else in the world. This is how it should be for each of us, if we call ourselves followers of Christ. Many of the most powerful leaders in the free world spoke at his memorial service. They understood that his legacy is in teaching and reminding us that there is something bigger and more important than politics happening in our world. We must open our eyes to the spiritual battle around us, and be willing to fight on our knees with prayer and the power of God’s Word.
Here’s the solution:
If you do not yet know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, please consider this truth: you have a Creator who loves you. He is a Heavenly Father who wants to be in a relationship with you so badly, that He sent His Son (His only Son) to die for you personally and to give you forgiveness for all of the sins you have ever and will ever commit. If you turn to Him, He will forgive you, draw you into His loving arms and start speaking more truth into your life. This is all so that you can have the abundant life that He died to give you. It isn’t complicated, but it is life-changing. All it takes is admitting you are a sinner in need of a Savior. Romans 10:9 says “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Accepting Jesus into your heart as your Lord and Savior is as simple as that. It only takes a moment for His transformative power to change your life forever and set you on the track towards eternal life in Heaven. Charlie became bolder and bolder in his faith in the last few years that he was on this earth with us. We don’t know how much time we have left, but we can surely follow Charlie Kirk’s example and do everything we can to make Heaven crowded.

Here is a video that shows Charlie talking about His faith in Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior of all who would call out to Him and ask for forgiveness:
